As one of the founding countries of the “Bologna Process”, which creates a standard in higher education and trains qualified individuals to meet the expectations of the century, Germany maintains the system in the best way.

As per the agreement, students graduating from European Union (EU) member countries will have equal rights among all member countries in terms of their education. Except for medical school, undergraduate education in all member countries is accepted as 3 years and a master’s degree as 2 years. Likewise, an academic year is divided into two semesters as in Türkiye.

The only difference is that students have the right to apply at the beginning of each semester unlike Türkiye, rather than the beginning of the academic year.

Also, in Türkiye where 4 points are considered the highest grade, Germany considers one the best grade, degrading to 4.

In Germany, universities can be categorized into two articlesin terms of implementation of systems: Universitat and Fachhochschule.

Universitat:

These universities focus on scientific research. They are briefly theoretical-based universities where you can study in any field you want yet more in a research-oriented system. Students who aim for high-rank positions in companies prefer these universities.

Fachhochschule:

The universities that operate under this system are based on application-oriented educational understanding. The education is directed toward internship orientation and students are expected to participate more actively in the educational process to develop their professional knowledge and skills in addition to theoretical education.

Thanks to this system, it would not be wrong to say that there is a high demand from students as they do not have much trouble finding a job with the experience they gained during their studies.

Regardless of whether the student graduates from Universitat orFachhochschule, their diplomas will be valid in line with the“Bologna Process” agreement.

Apart from these, some universities focus on specific skills in the field of arts and sports, which are calledHochschule or Akademie. Students undergo some special talent exams to enter these institutions.
